Dark, with rich, soft and juicy fruit, nice acidity and weight. Not quite as special and the 18’ Echezeaux, but very tasty! Drinking well now with lots of room to improve from here.

WOTN for me among a strong lineup of Clos Vougeot. In contrast to the Meo, this is huge, bold, and dark--but unlike some '18s, it's plenty fresh (although still not as fresh-picked and glistening as the Meo). This already is brimming with deep, intense, dark fruits; a touch of spice; and layers of complexity. It's structured but the fruit is so massive that the fine tannins are almost an afterthought. A Grand Cru that's very grand indeed. This is already really special and it's only going to improve. I suspect even the '18 skeptics will love this one. I wish it were easier to find (and cheaper!).

Barrel tasting at Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg (Vosne Romanee): A blockbuster stunning nose with intense spice that is layered with sexy black cherry fruit. The palate has Grand Cru concentration and a medley of black and red cherry. Fresh and precise. Again, so much power but this retains freshness, elegance and silkiness. Impressive. My favorite of the three Grand Crus today. 97+

Burgundy, Day 3 (Beaune, France): Barrel sample. What a wine. This has always been my favourite of the grands crus in the lineup and for me today, this was no exception. This is a hypothetical mix of the Echezeaux and Ruchottes -- massive scale, earth, spice, black fruit, sweetness, balance, the whole shebang. A complete wine that will just need a lot of time to resolve everything, though honestly, it's pretty impressive already.
