And after having tasted a number of Nebbiolo Langhes from renowned producers in the past weeks and months, I have to say that I feel this genre went in the wrong direction in recent years.
Nebbiolos now seem to be, rather than good deals for customers, where they get baby-Barolos or baby-Barbarescos for a reasonable price, a great deal for producers, where they sell very simple, weak wines for the price of serious ones.
I mean this Massolino is a typical "let's have a generic, basic red wine for food" type of thing which should never cost more than 8-9 EUR (in fact today quite a lot of supermarket mass wines reach this level confidently, at a price point of 5-6 EUR). Its price was 17 Euros, for which one gets a decent Bordeaux Superieur or Cru Bourgeois, a nice Rosso di Montalcino or an excellent Rioja.
How anyone puts a 90-92points on this is beyond me. This is the kind of wine tastings at wineries tend to start with, because they are so meaningless that anything that comes after them will shine in comparison.

On the nose
Red fruits , strawberry,
On the palette , similar
Light ruby
Med acidity
Low+ tannins
Reminds me of an entry level pinot noir
Not awfully complex, but a pleasure to drink

Clean, pure and balanced but painfully banal.

Light-bodied with low fruit concentration. Feels a bit thin and is hard to pair with food. Best enjoyed on its own. Not worth the price of $20s.
