We opened a magnum of this 1990 Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon on 31st Dec 2022. Drank it over the next two hours with a prime rib dinner. This wine is still holding great flavors and was a wonderful addition to our New Year’s Eve party. Still drinkable after 30 years.

I’m not quite sure how to rate this wine. Since I bought it on my Honeymoon in 1993, this last bottle has been kept in optimal storage, but I’ve been wondering about whether it was over the hill. Is isn’t. Not yet, anyway. Upon opening, some very fresh aromas leapt out of the glass...Granny Smith apple (?!) and raspberry, with hints of Allspice, new leather, and fresh earth. It had a decent grip on the front of the palate, with red fruit flavors that had a surprising level of acidity. It was slightly drying on the finish, but that’s not surprising for such an old wine. I give it 93 points not only because of its merits, but an extra nudge for being so much better than I expected!

Still very nice! Fruitier than expected with a predominance of red berries and earth. No tannins. Very nice with some big ribeye steaks.
