Classic mature Bordeaux. Filled out well after a two hour decant. Ripe, clean fruit. Cassis dominated and in great condition. Has the 85 character of charm and softness but with depth to back it up. Will last your years yet though mature and unlikely to get any better.

Tasted at home with friends, the ninth of a 10 bottle vertical tasting of Chateau Cissac vintages from 2014 to 1975. Opened, decanted and poured almost immediately (I generally don't like opening old bottles in advance in case they fade too quickly). At first I thought this wine would be bad. Level on top shoulder. As I attempted to insert the corkscrew into what appeared to be a saturated cork, the cork plunged straight into the bottle. With the help of a strainer, I got the wine out and quickly passed round the bottle. Luckily, it was good. Light maroon colour. Not much fruit on the nose and palate, some blackcurrants showing, slightly scented. Medium bodied. Much better than I had feared when trying to open it.

Part of a tasting of 31 vintages of Chateau Cissac. Great fruit and depth of flavour. Day 2. Still dark red centre with a brick edge. Lovely fruit, depth and long finish. Very Good

I cut my teeth on Cissac '85 in the early 1990s - my first real Claret Experience. So I wondered if anything would be left of it now - and I'm glad to report that it's still absolutely delicious. Soft deep fruit is perfectly integrated into its savoury maturity. Completely held its ground against the Clos du Marquis and d'Issan which we'd dispatched previously. Maybe fading just a little, but then so am I. Drunk to Parsifal with G, who shared so many of these with me 25 years ago.

Lovely light cherry red in colour with almost clear meniscus, just edging brick red. Shy, mature bouquet of red fruit, violets and cedar wood. Palate is lively, packed with vibrant red fruit, lovely acidic balance and great length.
