This is far prettier and finessed than anticipated, with soft contours offset by sour cherry and mineral tones. There’s a salty flourish and hints of hard red candies that define the finale, as the 2017s tannins come in late, tugging at the cheeks and drying the expression. I really love the aromatics here, yet I wonder if its fruit is up to the task of outliving its youthful structure.
