{screwcap. 14.5%} Black plum aromas less developed than the dark garnet with brick-orange rim would indicate. Also tar and liquorice. There's a fragrant quality too undeniably, but the palate is warm and blurry, cooked and ripe. Dominated by stewed black fruit flavours, with just a hint of 'pinosity'. Tannins have nearly faded away, there's mild acid but the balance is starting to go now. Medium length finish of no great complexity. Probably past peak, shill quite drinkable. Use it go beef up an aenemic Burgundy with a bit of fruit- would be ideal.

{screwcap, 14%} Not too dissimilar to last year's bottle, but this lacked bloom and perfume and charm. It tasted all rather assembled somehow, which contributed to its sense of anonymity; blind I'd have been hard-presed to call this pinot. It's dark-garnet coloured, hard and unyielding on the palate, not too hot, but more hollow than anything. If I was forced to drink my remaining bottle tomorrow, I'd give it a two-hour decant and hope for the best.

Very dark, but translucent burgundy color - red with black hues. Color carries through to the rim.
Big and slightly high toned nose nose of damp earth, porcini mushrooms, wet moss and fur pelts.
Sweet black fruit on the palate - macerated black cherries and blackberries. An earthy quality carriers through the palate with a touch of bitterness and firm acid on the end palate.
The fruit is a touch sweet to warrant a higher score, but a strong and complex performance for a 10 year old kiwi pinot.

Screwcap. Nose combines earthy notes of browned beef and forest floor with lively notes of red cherry, raspberry, and orange peel. Palate shows mature fruit notes of raspberry, strawberry, plum, and blood orange, combined with an earthy, truffley note. Tannin is smooth (almost fully resolved) and moderately bitter. Alcohol is strong but well-integrated, providing body and sweetness.

{screwcap, 13.5%} Developing, clearly. Meaty; delicatessen-like, a touch of soy. Memories of black cherry fruit. Still plenty of fairly hard acid; tannins have softened out into a gentle powdery texture. Full-bodied pinot, and with some alcoholic warmth too; it's a pretty big mouthful of flavour, but rthere's not a lot of complexity to it. Medium-length finish; I don't think there's anything to be gained from further cellaring. A handsome mouthful of wine with plenty of general appeal, but not better than that.
