  • Opened 6 hours beofre drinking, decanted into a wide mouth container. Cork had about 2mm of colour at the top, and was in good condition.
Initial nose, on pouring into the decanter was full of promise. First whiff after pouring into a glass was full of wood and old leaves adn not much else...a bit of a worry here...but after a short time this improved to a rich raspberry jam nose. The taste was interesting and fresh fruit was not to be found, although the raspberry jam, without any of the sweetness was abundant. There was also the sense of the sticky bits at the bottom of a blackberry pie. Again, no sweetness and it all seemed to be carried along on something akin to the frequently waxed mellow wood walls of a grand old house, warmed. There also leaves, spinach and silver beet, and also tobacco. The flavours came and went over a couple of hours, but it was great sitting in the mouth for some minutes. Towards the end, came a sense of something minty, possibly toothpaste. This was not unpleasan but it certainly signalled the finish of the flavours, until a piece of chilli chocolate, then the wine showed another whole round of flavours! Time to get on and drink these I think. Might try and make something with raspberries or blackberries for the next bottle. Thanks Judy and Tim!
