Sommelier Journal

(G.D. Vajra Barbera d’Alba Superiore, Barolo) Grown and produced in one of the highest sites in the commune of Barolo, near the village of Vergne, this distinctive Barbera is more elegant than those from lower elevations. Full, rich, and brooding, it offers typical round-buttart fruit, with another gear of aromatics and finesse that we don’t always see from such a fruit-driven varietal. I like it with a leaner protein, when the guest wants a full-blown red, but the dish doesn’t have the fat to support more tannins. Hot Picks
