  • Medium-dark reddish garnet in color. Full, forward & aromatic nose of ripe red cherries, blueberries & strawberries with overtones of floral notes of violets & spices, earthy/dusty, some tea & cola, minerals & a slight hint of oak/vanilla in the background. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blueberries & plums with spices, earthy, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla. Drinks quite well at present but should develop further with a few years of additional aging.

  • Fabulous Pinot, ripe and supple, fresh and complex, deep and textured but light on its feet, this is just fabulous...

Aromas of dark berries, cola, roses, iris, desiccated pine forest, a little smoky meat and caramelized root veggies... Full and enveloping on the palate, quite ripe and powerful, but it fans out and freshens up in a hurry, woodsy and spicy tones take over from the fruit and vibrant acids shine through. The fruit is pristine and persistent through the finish, this just gushes with ripeness but remains fresh and elegant, so airy and delicate, a little black pepper and salty blood emerges in a most Pinot way, and it really shows off Pinot's ability to combine power and levity. Primary and quite fruity, it is almost too easy today, but it should become quite interesting in time, this has balance and intensity to spare.

This bottle is under screw cap, but it is not reductive in any way, so it should age slowly and gracefully in this closure. I'm still not 100% sold on screw caps. Corks are renewable, and an excellent cork, rare as it may be, is my vote for best enclosure, it would be the last, or only, bit of oak a wine lives with before you drink it, and when i get a pristine cork out of an old bottle, i simply wonder at the magic of a really nice cork. Anyway, I wonder if every bottle of Ayres Perspective is under screw cap, i hope not.
