Burgundy WIMPS, Le Figaro table (La Trompette, London): A touch agricultural on the nose. Quite sweet fruited on the attack. And then it kicks. Seems to get a bit lighter on cleaner with air. It changes with air from the rustic to the strict to the unfashionable to the insouciant. It's shamelessly old school from another era. More interesting than fun! ***1/2

A lovely Nuits-Saint-Georges and perhaps my first '93 which was really singing. Colour showing tawny tints. Expressive nose with lively cherry tinged Pinot notes, some meat and and minerals. Robust medium bodied palate replaying the aromas from the nose with good depth, silky texture, classical shape, still quite youthful fruit, some secondary notes, lively acidity and enough tannins left for support of the long finish. Excellent.

Dark, meaty and still slightly brooding. Very 1993 in that regard, but also not particularly nuanced or elegant. Lots of black fruit, lots of minerality coming through on finish. Good now, but no hurry to consume.

Wine-Pages Faiveley Offline (The Square, London): Slightly more volatile nose, quite pruney. Positive attack, sweet fruit, quite rounded and together, then a nicely dry finish. OK. Nose becomes quite balsalmicy after a while. ***
