Dinner at Heirloom (Heirloom, St.Paul, MN): Medium red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over an hour plus. This had some alcohol showing through now; cherry, dried cherry, spice and wood with hints of leather. The palate is lighter medium bodied, wood, cherry, dark cherry, alcohol, with some warmth on the finish. This kind of went in and out of being balanced through the evening. Past the ideal drinking window, but still serviceable. 87+pts.

Tannins fully softened. Took a few hours of airing to reach full potential. Leather & spice notes more pronounced relative to subdued fruit. Wine is peaking but not past its prime.

This was my third and final bottle of the 02 Murto. P&P. My last one in 2009 showed some pretty solid development, but lasts nights bottle was simply in the zone. Aromatics were on full force: roses, dark baking spices, touches of grilled game bird, fennel, etc. The palate stayed true to its red fruit themes of previous encounters, fresh strawberries, and loads of spice, but conveyed an ever greater sense of both complexity and refinement. Bottle age has really made the difference here, go figure!
