  • A matter of taste 2024 (Kongresshalle, Zürich): *** Brief notes from wine fair, primarily for my own memory ***
    Glass: Stölzle Universal
Consistent with my previous notes. Needs time. 94+

  • Deep crimson. Expressive nose of cassis, herbs, mineral, leather, smoke, a little underbrush. Very fine tannins and good length. Nicely structured but not austere by any means. I am surprised to see the alcohol on the label is 15% as this is not a big bruiser by any stretch and there is no heat detected on the palate. Despite the young age, this is a delight to drink right now - that has been my experience with previous vintages of Saffredi going back to 2013. They drink well young but also have plenty in reserve for further ageing. It will hit prime time by 2027 and drink well for 10-15 years beyond that. A good value for the high quality and one of my favourite SuperTuscans year after year.

  • PnP. Color is deep ruby. On the nose: Cassis, plum, dark chocolate, espresso and forest floor. On the palate: Plum, dark chocolate, cassis and tar. This is lush, long and sensuous. My first time trying. This is a very good wine. High alcohol levels but not tasting that (but will feel it for sure).

  • Aromatically the wine is vanilla bean, plum skin and cherry. On the palette the wine explodes with an emergent sweetness presented in a viscous juice that seems to release more flavors as I chewed it in mouth.

This has to be one of the wines of the night. Enjoyable now and likely for years. Worth the price of admission at $120 Bottle.

  • Glass: Zalto Bordeaux
Popped and poured, drunk over two days. Couldn't resist to pop one young.
Clear, deep purple ruby color. Clean, medium+ intense youthful nose. Lots of cherries, spices and herbs. Dense, deep and fresh.
On the palate beautiful racy ripe acidity that balances the 15% abv beautifully. High, mellow and ripe tanin.
Medium to full body. Lots of sour cherry, herbs, spices and lovely mineral core. Of course very fresh and young, but already very elegant and balanced. Deep and dense with a beautiful texture and grip. Long, fruity finish. Quite consistent with my previous note. Great potential. 94-95+
