the lighter color in this wine could have been the give-away to the vintage though this shows mostly secondary with bits of tertiary complexity (just barely) coming through. Classic herbal red fruit- beet root, antique funiture, sandalwood, anise spice, cinnamon, a faint whiff of damp wood/sous bois poking through with air and an orange note propelling through the dried red cherry profile. Very delicate, lithe and Drouhin in the style with lovely integrated tannin and appropriate acidity. This is drinking great right now but don't let the light color fool you- there is no rush and this Gevrey village is aging slowly still. Going just beyond middle-age and starting to show some special stuff! 94+

Pale garnet color with clear rim; dry, savory notes; soil inflected, classic soy and spicebox character; still surprisingly tight and having the usual Drouhin structure and acidity; still merely secondary character, where’s my sous bois??!!! Having really good luck with ‘83s and Drouhin, I snared an ‘83 JD Vosne Suchots and Chambolle Amoureuses from the same source. This village Wine indicates I need be in no hurry to tap those bottles.

A fantastic bottle opened by my friend Charlie. I've not had Burgundy at 28 years old, but this was quite an experience. The nose was expressive with dried strawberry, leather, a hint of mushroom and scent that reminds me of the basement in the house I grew up in. I was surprised by the vibrancy of the fruit midpallet and the dusty but satisfying tannins present in my upper and lower gums. The wine had a laser-like precision and a short finish but I must admit I kept going back to it. We drank it over the course of an hour and it kept changing for the better.
