  • On one hand, this wine delivered everything that you could expect from a village level negoce wine.
On the other hand, it hardly lived up to the restaurant pricing.
This wine is drinking at its peak right now and should not be decanted.
shows the strong 99 vintage, but also the limitations at this level.

  • The Drouhin graceful style works well in counterpoint to the ripe/fuller vintage of 1999 here. This Gevrey AC, like other bottles, shows more detail and elegance with subtle hickory smoke, dried autumn leaves, clove, anise and salted game. The palate is pliant but fresh, with well-judged acidity that should make this wine continue to age on it’s balance. Very attractive for drinking now but I suspect this will show even bottle in the tertiary stage (if anyone has the patience). 92 points today but I think this could hit 94(ish) with decades to come!

  • Brought by Xavier94 to our Gevrey tasting and tasting it blind: baking spices (predominantly cinnamon and clove), I found it to be otherwise fairly muted and still evolving. Scoring it the same as I did a couple years ago. Xavier94 reminds me he acquired this from me in past couple years. Glad he’s happy with his purchase as this showed as well as some gran crus this day.

  • This wine pours light garnet in the glass. More evolved color than expected given the often youthful showings from this vintage. Medium bricking. The nose is initally quite tertiary and tired showing a lot of mulchy and almost pruny character. Over the course of a couple hours it improves considerably to show dried cranberry, dried lemon peel, dried red current, animal fur, sauteed mushrooms, and damp mossy undergrowth. The palate features medium minus tannin and medium acid, along a pleasant but fairly simple and not terribly long finish. Fairly classical stuff here from Drouhin.

  • This is over-performing for it's quality level with the richness of the vintage coupled with great delineation and focus to the aromas and flavors. Dark cherry fruit with anise, truffle, iron-type minerals and a bit of beef juices/game come through with air time. Definitely showing some umami/soy savor in the mouth with coated tannins still. This is more like 92-93, honestly and could have been a 1er Cru. WOW. One hell of a QPR, though replacing this vintage would probably cost way too much these days.....*sigh*
