Cork easily extracted with a Durand but wet nearly to top. Pale ruby colour on pouring into Zalto glasses, oxidising to a cola colour within a few minutes. Some grainy sediment at the end of the bottle. Nose of spice and leather, flavour of balsamic strawberry and spice. Mouthfeel of warming old pinot, high acidity. A treat from the past!

I couldn't quite remember if we had tasted the '79 Gevrey Drouhin or not but it really does show some lovely high-toned red fruit with clove, cinnamon spice and that lovely orange top note that breaks away to smoke and leather with air time. A leaner Gevrey for sure, even by the delicate standards of Drouhin but such a pretty note and energetic acidity. The acidity does poke out a bit here but the fruit has really gotten to a lovely "pretty" place. Would be happy to drink again, though I wouldn't see much point in aging further...

Very fullish, meaty, soil inflected; loads of classic Drouhin acidity takes it right up to the red line (any further and you’d have to say VA). Interesting wine. 91+

A clear longshot. Thin, funky, and a trifle nasty when opened. Sat in bottle for about 3 hours, got better, though with the sweet/candied over dead leaves thing one gets in too old PN. Some acids, no tannins, falls apart after 10 -15 minutes in glass. D on opening, B-/C+ with time and a gentle pour.
