Community Tasting Notes (2) Avg Score: 89 points

  • This vintage of Harrison Hill will either be praised for its elegance and nuance or it will be thought of as a failed vintage. This is tough to write as this wine certainly is one of the most consistently outstanding wines produced in Washington state. This time I am tasting through an entire bottle over two days.
Color is pale garnet and as mentioned in an earlier note the resemblance to Pinot Noir is undeniable. Even in fragrance. Tart cherry/strawberry on the nose and pleasant if not enjoyable to smell. Palate is thin and tart and I find myself at odds with one of my favorite wine critics, Jeb Dunnuck. Jeb gave it 94-96 from a barrel tasting in a recent report. No bottle score as of yet. If this was a Pinot I might score it 89-90. Against this wine's Cabernet based peer group, I am going with a hesitant 87. There is a striking lack of depth and little that would make you guess world class Cabernet blend. Second day only reinforced my impression that this wine lacks depth and character. I have now tasted this wine on four separate occasions with consistent notes.

  • Tasted at the tasting room in Woodinville along with the other new 2021 releases. I'm certainly no expert, and definitely no Harrison Hill authority but I don't believe I have ever seen a Cabernet based wine from Delille that was this light in color, if tasted blind, one might guess pinot. Not judging as I would like to taste through an entire bottle to see if this has the staying power of the usual Harrison Hill. Elegant on the palate and very fragrant think flowers and black raspberry. I will be anxious to follow the evolution of this one. My score is most likely conservative.
