White Alba truffle dinner at Park Place: This was excellent and one of my top wines of the night amongst some big names. Complex nose of mint, orange, and spices. Very vibrant. Loved it.

Winorama: A winter in Wineland III; 1/4/2019-1/13/2019 (Portland/Willamette, Eureka, Napa): When we were in Piedmont a few months ago this was one of my favorite producers and since then have been seeking out more chances to try the wines. I would say this was a good version although not quite at the same level as some of the others we've had. It's got that nice blend of acidity and slightly unripe red fruit (less cherry here, more red currant style). Some spices. A very good wine.

Roagna Exploration Tastings (Morrell Wine Bar & Cafe): The nose was dark with moist soil tones and minerals up front, as sweet herbs developed with a mix of bright cherry and dried florals. On the palate, I was greeted to silky textures as a powerful mix of black cherry, minerals and grippy tannin washed across the senses. Its fruit was polished and dark yet still youthfully firm across the long saturating and structured finish. The ‘96 requires at least another five to ten years to come around.

Stunning Barbaresco - depth, layers of fruit, earth notes, with tannins and acid beautifully balanced. Takes a lot of time to come into its own. If you open one now, decant for half a day. Will be at peak in 2020-2024.

This was an outstanding showing for the ‘96 Pajé, especially served next to the Crichët Pajé of the same year. The nose showed sweet herbs, savory earth tones, smoke, brown spices and crushed strawberry. On the palate, I found zesty, grippy, energizing textures with vibrant acidity giving way to pure red fruits, minerals and hints of orange peel. It finished long, with dried berries and hints of tannin, yet energetic and spicy.
