So very ripe. Very californian in its ripeness. But perhaps burgundian in its depth? Not roasted, raisined, or coffee as others have noted, more a very forward, ripe version, with a healthy dose of medicinal licorice. Strong. While the best of burgundy is power without weight, this is not, but it is powerful, and it really isn't fat or fatiguing either. Retains enough acidity to keep from that. Maybe in twenty years, when some girlish plumpness has fallen away, she will be a real beauty, with more to offer than those who were lean in their youth. It is hard to say with '03, but at least this appears to be a well-made '03 by any standard.

Integrated better than previously, but remains dominated by coffee and raisiny fruit notes on the palate. Nose is good, palate presence very good, finish long but shows the raisin. Good food wine and pleasant with a meal, but no zing and not my favorite vintage. I'm drinking my most of my 2003s

Overly fat at open, somewhat out of balance with strong fruit overwhelming any balancing acidity or grip. Improved with air, got to the point of being very good by the end of the bottle. Hopefully time will help integrate everything and dissipate the fruit-bomb thing, which is not why I drink burgundy.

Light in color, modest in aroma and flavor but with some grip and complexity. Burgundian secondary flavors crept in after a couple of hours.

deliciously soft and velvety burgundy. lacks the acidity to give real structure and probably needs drinking inthe next three years
