Nose: Plum, cassis, violets, pencil shaving and leather. Detailed mint, eucalyptus and a bit of dried berry notes. Palate: Cool dark mountain fruit leads the way with cassis, plum, blueberry and a touch of fig. Big mint, leather and gravel notes with a bint of mineral and coffee bean. Finish: embedded sweet tannin in the mouth and a lot of blackberry, plum, leather and crushed mint.
Outstanding and reaching full maturity

TN: Old Cabernet and Young Mourevdre (plus two Rieslings): The richest of four 1994 Cabernets served side-by-side, this also showed a bit of heat until it had been open for an hour or so. Then it settled into a still fruity groove, with some oak and a high-toned, structured finish. It has the depth to continue aging, but not sure it has the balance for it.

drank at a belated Anniversary dinner with my bride who unfortunately was having a terrible GI evening. The wine remains remarkably dark and intense after all these years but still well balanced and more than adequate fruit. Some of the vibrancy is reduced but still deep and rich if slightly acidic. I thought it better and more beautiful the second night
Muted bouquet at first which evolved to a strong scent of tobacco and blackberries. Good fruit and acidity and rich tannins. The wine was well balanced, but tight. Despite decantingit never evolved to have the elegance and lovely, long finish of the ‘93 La Jota anniversary which I have had 3x during the last month. It was unclear to me whether the wine would evolve in future years with more time. Very good wine, but not spectacular.
