(Not a) birthday dinner (Hinsdale, IL): I liked this more than the 1991 alongside -- this had an intense spice note, and the richer style of the house works very well with the thinner, acid-driven vintage. This is mature, but there is still a prickliness to the acidity and tannin here that I doubt will ever really go away. Pleasant silky texture here, and with air, this became a lot more brothy.

So delicate and pretty, exceptional aromatics and super fresh. Became a little bit musty with more air and continued to fall apart a bit in the glass after 20-30 minutes, but up until then it was insanely good!

Lovely opening, good mid palate weight, getting more rustic with time, finish a bit hard...

Some cream notes, not the most elegant. Relatively short palate.
