  • Holiday Burgundy Lunch: Served blind, this had some funk to it. The age was evident, and in retrospect I think it was a mistake to pop and pour, this likely should have been slow oxidized for hours beforehand. Shocking upon the reveal, this should have been a top contender even amongst today's stiff competition but it wasn't. It was a very good wine, just lacking the purity and exuberance of some of the other wines, and marred by a bit of that funk that never entirely dissipated.

  • From a lovely bottle with a 2 cm fill, this wine had a deep red center and light red/tawny rims. The high intensity nose offered up black cherries, fennel, pomegranate, roses, and minerals. It was close to a perfect nose.

In the mouth, this wine was ripe but had outstanding acidity and incredible length. The fruit had a core of dried cherries and finish seemed to go on and on. The wine was fruity but dry, refined but hugely flavorful, as well as serious but fun.

Wow, Faiveley knock the ball out of the park with this wine. While at its peak, it should perform at this level for 5-10 years. Worth every penny!

  • From a good looking bottle with a 3.5 cm fill, this wine had a light red center with light red/orange rims. The medium+ intensity nose showed dried cherries, plums, violets, and some dark spices.

In the mouth, this wine was refined but had loads of flavor. It had rounded tannin, crisp acidity, and excellent length. It was ripe but it had gorgeous balance and great complexity.

I was going to serve this wine before the DRC GE. However, I decided to serve it afterward when I tasted its Richebourg-like intensity. This was great from the first pour. It would have scored in the 95 range. However, it moved to an elite level after 4-5 hours in a decanter. Enjoy this rare bottle (10-15 cases made per year) if you can find it!
