Spicy nose of Hoisin and ginger with a bit of tar thrown in for good measure. It has a lovely interplay between sweet and savoury elements and is still a strong, deep wine. The finish is stony and long. I like very much.

A 1959 Horizontal Across Champagne, Burgundy and Bordeaux (Le Cinq Restaurant, George Cinq Four Seasons, Paris): A very different nose from the other wines in this flight. Much brighter red fruit profile. Somewhat herbaceous. A much lighter, more feminine wine than the others. Nice acidity. Perhaps a bit of volatile acidity.
