Caveat on the 100 points: while this wine is still fabulous, I am giving it the score that I would have the first time I had it, back in the mid-1990s. At that time it was (and remains) the greatest single bottle of burgundy I have had in my life. Absolutely unforgettable even a quarter century later, this wine had a dazzling array of floral, berry, tea, vanilla and burning wood scents, an equally compelling taste full of dark cherry, truffle and mocha, with a peacock tail finish that was like having the back of your sinuses blown out by every fruit you could name. Now this bottle was (and tasted) significantly older, not really in decline, but on the edge. More earth and charcoal in the nose than I recall, and a taste with a lot more tertiary, as you'd expect. But the finish, though less psychedelic than before, was certainly still there in spades. So this recent bottle would have to get rated somewhere around 95-97, fwiw. However, this is such a landmark for me I want the 100 to stand, because it deserves it. At its best, a religious experience.

Smelt of leather, sweat, and iodine and wet earth. It was full of tertiary characters and possessed a nice vinous sweetness in the mouth. It finished with a little cold tea tannin.

The color is amber to deep dark red. Very lively. Aromas of cola, aged mellow cigars, spice, and plastic, and that Musigny cologne. I cannot believe the smoothness of this wine, and the depth can be measured in fathoms. The finish lasts forever. I would buy every bottle of this wine I could ever find.
