Interesting concept. A Cab Fanc dominated Amarone style wine. We drank this at the end with the Cheese. Very intense nose of Cab Fanc Pyrazines paired with a generous palate of 15% alc. Rich, luscious but not sweetish. More like a dryer, leafy version of an Amarone. Complex aromatics. Hard to drink a full bottle with three people though.

From magnum, this was the hit of the night at dinner amongst stiff competition. It's a massive wine, but in such tremendous balance there's no sense of heaviness. Alzero is a unique wine that I am always delighted to experience.

Quintarelli Tasting (Frederiksberg): Dark blackberry fruit with a medium sweetness. It is compact and in a lovely balance with a solid acidity. Great wine but not compared to the 97 Alzero.

The first time I tasted an Alzero I was disappointed because I was expecting more of a classic expression of Cab Franc and found it just too darn ripe and sweet. This time, I adjusted my expectations and we actually had it for dessert with cheese and it showed beautifully with Amarone-like raisiny sweetness and lovely hints of green tobacco and violets. Really a silky wine with a great satiny texture/ Great with cheese and really fine complexity on the finish for a dessert wine which is what I maintain it is.
