So good! This is stellar and even more so when adjusted for the price. Beautiful wine and a true representation of a Chianti riserva. Amazing but this could easily go another 10 years or more! Perfect balance and still youthful.
Holy Chianti! Picked up two bottles and wow is all I can say. 21 years in this is drinking beautifully. Perfect to drink on its own or with food. Drank over the course of a few nights (Coravin) and excellent each time.

Opened one hour in advance. Stewy aromas of prunes and old leather. Open,complex, full flavors of cherry and leather. A little of the stew shows up on the lingering finish.
Fully mature, maybe starting downhill, but still vibrant. It did take a while to open up, quite tight and ungiving on first opening.

At Fernando's bbq. Whereas the '99 Montegrossi "San Marcellino" is (or was, a year or two ago), a deep and layered and rich CCR, this '97 was more resolved and astringent. The acidity is prominent when first opened. Definitely showed better with food. At ten years old, the fruit has receded and not much secondary development has occurred. The issue is will this wine improve or grow more complex? I don't think so. Drink now.

Pizza and Wine (Taurassi, Sagrantino Passito + more) (Queens): candied fruit, cherry, leather, earth, powerfull brunello-like wine, didnt get any oak from this one, light middle, refreshing, with a sweet lingering finish, touch of a bitterness on the end that dissaperared with time. YUM!
