After opening two bottles I aquired recently it's time to write a review.
I aquired them at a local specialities food store because I wanted to try tasting a more mature wine. Both bottles were standing upright - not the best position to store a wine in - but nevertheless I wasn't too concerned.
Such a "grandfather" of Australian wines has to be handled a bit differently than a younger one. Especially the cork was difficult to remove but I expected that.
After opening the bottle though a very intense oaky nose nearly knocked me over, especially after decanting this really interesting wine. I let it rest and breathe for about an hour before tasting to remove any unwanted flavors.
So, what did it taste like?
Dark red fruits (black currant) and a strong oak were the first flavors I noticed. After a while I noticed a burnt, maybe tar-like one which wasn't very strong and only barely noticable. Tannins were definitely there, smooth and pleasant, and added to the mouth feeling which was pleasant as well. The finish wasn't that long but still interesting. I sometimes noticed something sweetish, though I'm not sure if it might have been due to sweet food I had a few hours before tasting. The acidity was well balanced imho, I did notice a slight alcoholish flavour, probably due to the 13.5% which are not to underestimate.
Overall this was one of the best wines I've drunken so far. I think I'd buy it again but I'll try to see if I can get another vintage of this imho great wine first.

Expectation was low after reading past reviews, but ended pleasantly surprised by it's robust balance, albeit, close to it's life end. Some spice and oak makes it interesting. there was a bit of sour milk at first, but seemed to dissipate soon after opening.

Closed at opening . With 60 mins decanting opened nice to a nose of current with definte mint+ euclyptus notes. Elegant with impressive fruit+acid balance for a 15 year old wine. Was even better after 90 mins. Quite elegant for a Lehmann wine . Very true to the blend varietals. The cabernet showing classic S Australian characters Drink now

Mature but not dead. Candied, bizarre, artificial, and highly off-putting. Don't know if this was the bottle or what, but this was not particularly drinkable.

New Years wine 2015- well blended cab, Shiraz, Malbec, and merlot. Well balanced with a nice blueberry finish! Amazing after all these years.
