Served double blind to friends and as often happens with mature Cristom, the group was torn on new world vs. old world. A burgundian wine, to be sure. Pretty stem and spice filled aromas with fruit that has a bit of new world sweetness but so much balance and elegance. In a peak window with no further cellaring upside.

The wine was absolutely at its peak despite the fact it was supposed to have been over the hill a year or two ago. The wine was still a deep ruby color though the wine had thrown off considerable sediment. Raspberry? Clove? Not exactly, but I was too astonished by how wonderful this wine was drinking. I have one last bottle in the cellar, but it now has a high bar to reach.

From 375. Dark berry fruit has nicely integrated over time. Cassis on the nose, wet earth. Nice secondary flavours in the mouth; mushroom, tobacco, cola. This still has surpringly firm structure.

I could see some brick red showing around the edge of my glass and there were some initial off notes, but it wasn't quite over the hill. I had it with a steak and loaded baked potato, and the fats really helped what was left of the fruit shine through. Drink up if you still have some.

Double Blind Virtual tasting (Chicagoland IL): Double blind, rich and floral with very good spice and depth. Good weight. Very charming red cherry and berry start-to-finish.
