  • Definitely showing its age both in color and flavor. Starting to tast more spicy/burgundian. The color is starting to get a bit more brickish around the rim. Fruit has definitely faded. At times, tasted some of the characteristics of a cristom and at other times, I would have guessed this as a burgundy. Definitely an interesting transition. Some spicy complexity, but not the same balance of fruit as younger vintage marjories. Enjoyable, but past its peak, although if you like spicier/burgundian styles, this doesn't seem like its on a rapid decline, still some structure. 97 wasn't a great vintage, so this may not translate to 99s and 02s and 04s.

  • Double Blind Whites and Reds (My house): Tasted double blind. Typical, middle aged PN profile - red fruit, light earth. Somewhat lean. At first I was thinking domestic PN, but in the end I went with '95 red Burg, perhaps Morey-St-Denis. This was a strong showing for this wine, IMO. (Note: this was from 375ml).
