  • Opened at 5:30 pm, drank at 9 pm. Even then, it needed to be decanted. Next time will open even sooner.

Very structured still with great backbone. Superb tension and acidity. Lots of concentrated fruit notes with raspberry, blackberry and sous-bois, and a long finish. Still not showing all its layering. 92-93.

  • Opened at 4pm for dinner. Lovely tertiary nose of sois bois and cherries. Initially tannic but softened with more air. This is drinking beautifully. There is so much structure but yet a balanced ethereal juice. Will not hesitate to drink my remaining bottles but no hurry. May consider to decant next time.

  • This wine was double decanted and left to breathe for 3 hours before pouring and rewarded with a dark cherry colour and a fragrant nose of fresh and scented dark cherries and raspberry with touches of wild strawberry and the floor of the forest above Chambolle ( limestone and undergrowth ). The palate is nicely linear with a rich core of dark fruits that open out into a persistent texture of fruit and minerality with inflections of complexity and florality. A delicious wine that needs some serious aeration to show its best.

  • We did not decant this, which was a clear mistake. To be hopeful, the wine is just not ready. It is surly and uninviting. To be clear at this time this is in no condition to enjoy - and I don't think even a long decant will make it so today. So we wait..... I am told Ghislaine Barthod's wines - so lovely in barrel - close up and need a great deal of patience. This certainly supports that view. Hard not to be disappointed on this showing. Bought on release.

  • Some nights wines have everything going for them and sometimes it’s a root day, a thunderstorm and Barthod from the Bonnes Mares side of Chambolle. A 1999 to boot. This ranged from sullen and inexpressive to downright misanthropic. One senses there’s plenty of wine there, but maybe another few years in the cellar are in order. Thank you to KB even if this bottle was a bit “stern.”
