Pale garnet with orange tinted rim; shockingly unevolved, furthering my suspicion (after noting how pristine the bottle, label, capsule and cork were) that this was something of a late-release or reconditioned bottle(?). Purely secondary character with rich dark cherry fruit and the classic blood orange top note; very rich, dark, pure and balanced; opens up nicely over a couple hours. Tasting partner was guessing 1999 and an entirely different commune. Will try to hold off on my other bottle of this for ten years (assuming I last that long). Day 2: Incredibly still opening up on 2nd day.

Sixteenth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Inovasi - Lake Bluff IL): Flight of Charmes-Chambertin across 4 decades. More red than black fruit, charming and easy with good+ length, still fresh enough. Finished with slightly more firmness and tartness than I'd consider ideal.

Disappointing wine. Reconditioned bottle, the wine seemed unusually young. Very deep red and youthful. but dusty. On the palate the tannins were grippy, and the fruit was young. Not very enjoyable

Burgundy Dinner - René Engel and 1978s (Formento's - Chicago IL): In 1978 flight. Still fresh but rather firmly structured. Less excited vs another taste from a year ago, also (I'm told) less exciting vs previous bottles from this same case. Slightly rugged finish. Certainly austere on its own, then better with food.

Zachys La Paulee "Warm-up" Dinner (Boulevard - San Francisco CA): Small glass, brief note. Mature red and black cherry with great spice start on nose. Similar flavor profile, just slightly less vibrant and exciting, showing a bit more mushroom. Moderate length. Still overall very easy to enjoy.
