  • Double decanted for corkage. Opened up after 30 mins in the glass. Pronounced ripe strawberry, plum, cassis, brown sugar, earth, and savory notes. Medium+ acidity, medium+ body, with tannins that were mostly resolved. Long, clean, and juicy finish. Still primary, it has the structure to easily age 10+ more years. Recommend a 30-minute decant if opening now.

  • Ruby. Right from the pop, gorgeous sous bois notes dominate the nose, followed by some sweet cherry and spicy oak. Red fruit flavors on the palate, although there's not much intensity given the vintage and the wine is light on the midpalate before yielding welcome fruit & earth on the finish. Medium-light body. This wine is all about the bouquet, which only improves with aeration. In line with the vintage, this has likely reached maturity and should drink well for about a decade more.

  • Caveau des Arches: Wines with Dinner (Beaune): Black and red cherry with meaty character. Great fruit, moderate density. Entering its peak drinking window around now with moderate structure that will keep it fun for a decade plus (2014-2027?). I liked it slightly more tonight at Caveau des Arches vs when last tasted, which was exactly two years ago at Caveau des Arches.

  • Birthday dinner at Sichuan Douhua. Ex domaine, en magnum. Bright red, great clarity. Very minerally, lots of sweet red cherries, strawberries and very vibrant. Some scorched earth and forest floor with time. Palate had lots of smoked meat (or was that from the duck?!), cherries, rose petals, wet rocks and earth. Like my previous bottle, slightly short on the mid palate, lacking the final bit of complexity to make this a truly great Charmes. Again, this put on more weight, power and intensity of fruit with time. Great wine to finish the lovely dinner.
