Consistent with my admittedly limited other experiences with this producer -- well-balanced and defined with red cherry fruit and still firm, but no soul in this wine. Cellared since original release.

This was a very confusing wine. When I first decanted it in the afternoon, it showed a great nose full of fruit as well as maturing savory notes. About 5 hours later from the decanter it showed a strange musty aroma and was all savory and earthy notes and had become tannic again. We moved on and I saved the rest for the next day. The mustiness had gone away and it showed as a maturing nebbiolo with all of the umami notes and some dried fruit. Still a bit more structure than was pleasant. I found this showing confusing and I'm perplexed about when to open another bottle.

Deep garnet color, slightly orange rim. Diane has this pegged, aromas of rose, black cherry, and blood orange with a touch of herb. Full bodied on the palate and silky through the middle with some residual ripe tannins on the finish. Very nice Bartolo in a great place now.

Still quite tannic, but roses and cherries show beautifully and finishes on a strong licorice note. The cherries become more prominent as well as the addition of blood orange as it gets more air.

We had a 1999 Borolo. Wonderful at this price point. Cherry, moderate tannins. Sharp finish.
