Nick's 2008 Burgundies (Noizé, London): Medium gold, a lemony, herbal nose, like the first whiff of a freshly pierced roast chicken as a tendril of steam escapes. Yummy, and I was not the only one to think of this comparison. Many people would have bet money on this being dead but it is gloriously alive and what is more it improves in the glass. Effortlessly restrained and poised on the palate, pithy and saline, with a sweet but not tropical edge. One of the best wines I have had this year, and what a way to start the 2008 tasting.

Nick A's 2008 Burgundy Horizontal (Table B) (Noizé, London): Cracking mature white Puligny. Not a hint of undue oxidation. Nose has a beguiling limey freshness with a complementary sagey / chicken skin character. Oh what balance and mouthfeel. Palate has a pineapple core nod to tropicality and sweetness but it's all in balance. With some air, a hazelnut character emerges.

Drank this with BurgNick. The plot is right underneath Chevalier Montrachet and next to Montrachet. On the color, beautiful bright and concentrated yellow. On the nose, extremely nutty, honey toasted almond and walnut, modest touch of tropical fruits, very aromatic. On the palate, it offered great minerality (which I think typically shown as one of the key characteristics for Chevalier Montrachet), yellow fruits, and spices. It was focused but not overly powerful. Generous fruits along with firm acidity. Finish was very long. It was my wine of the night.

Good minerality. Slightly reductive on bouquet, not a typical Colin Deleger. The plot is right next to Montrachet. A good value.

Another strong bottle with egg custard, nut fruit and minerals. Grand cru weight and intensity. Drinking at its peak. Very good classic puligny.
