Found this in my cellar today. About 4 years past it’s “drink by” date, but still very nice. Absolutely zero tannins left, but great nose of chocolate, tobacco and leather with a hint of red cherry. On palate, dark fruit with earthy tones, again the slight hint of chocolate. Despite the age, still took a few hours to develop (didn’t decant). Overall very happy. Went great with the steak I bought for the occasion.

Very big wine with an enormous bouquet in the glass. Lots of fruit, particularly cherry. Paired great with New York Strip steak, but would probably overpower subtler meals. Would have rated higher but the wine had bled through to the top of the cork. Surprised it hadn't gone bad, although it did have a touch of a bite that shouldn't have been there.

Spice, raspberry, and smoke on the nose. No tannin; fruit and alcohol burn on palate
