A bite with Barquin (28-50, London): Light garnet. Lactic and redcurrant nose. Quite bright and pretty on the palate with a touch of smoke. Not that persistant or long but really quite pretty. Feminine and lovely. A touch too warm temp wise, but opens up and takes on a nice shape with some air. ***1/2

Domaine Ghislaine Barthod at the Ledbury: Very evolved looking. Delicious, if initially with a slightly severe aspect. However, if not hedonistic, it is delicate, à point, and opens out into a fine and fully mature Burgundy.

a little thin, the nose took an hour in the decanter to open up, it fattened up in that time too, cherry and earthiness, still fresh with fair fruit, quite dry, medium length

Matts pre 41st birthday drinks; 2/25/2011-2/27/2011: Even with a couple of hours of decanting this was quite thin and never really got going, there was something there, but it was hard to pick it out
