  • Filippo's Farewell Dinner (La Trompette, Chiswick): Very earthy, a touch of mineral, vegetal, a vestige of underlying red fruit if you really look for it but difficult to enjoy. NR

  • Pale/medium garnet core, wide pale mahogany/garnet rim. Nose is very developed with soil, mushroom, undergrowth, touch of smoky mineral. Rich, quite complex. Medium bodied, earthy, mushroomy, smoky mineral again, vibrant acidity, some sandy tannin marks the medium/good length finish. Certainly better than my previous bottle of this, but nothing special.

  • Purchased from domain. Popped and poured 30 minutes later. Consumed with venison. Still clear at the edge, very slight rusting, but still youthful looking. Outstanding nose of warm dark red fruit and forest floor. Palate that matches or exceeds nose. There are still tannins and acidity, and fruit, but none dominate. All is in harmony with the teritiary aged burg forest floor. Elegant, contemplative, delicious. Outstanding wine, a solid A.

  • Pale/medium garnet core, wide pale mahogany rim. Very developed nose, earthy, vegetal, undergrowth, spice. Quite rich but very developed. Medium bodied on the palate, fruit is again quite rich but very earthy and vegetal, tannins are a touch leathery, good fresh acidity on the medium length finish. Whilst structurally reasonably sound the fruit profile on this bottle has gone too far for me - still drinkable but not massively enjoyable.

  • Medium garnet core, wide pale garnet rim. Nose is of weak to moderate intensity, with some attractive gently spicy, mellow, pure strawberry fruit, notes of soil and game. Palate is medium bodied, weak-moderate intensity if attractive strawberry fruit, tannins still a touch firm and somewhat overwhelm the fruit on the short finish. Not the best bottle of this.
