Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • I only had a handful of sparkling reds from Australia to date and this admittedly came across as the most serious of those few. The sparkling wine was bright dark ruby in colour. It offered dark fruits, forest berries, blackberry, plum, chocolate and earthy notes on the nose. On the palate the wine showed sweet fruit, forest berries, blackberry, black currant, dark plum, chocolate and cola. The sparkling wine was very chocolate-driven and surprisingly close in its flavour profile to a non-sparkling Barossa Shiraz. A very interesting tasting experience, though red sparkling Shiraz will probably not make it to the top of the list of my all time favourite sparklers.

  • A very strange wine. My first experience with a sparkling aussie shiraz. Very close aromatically to a typical Barossa shiraz, but on the palate the sparkles' effect leads to a totally different experience. I really cannot assess this.
