  • Comte de Vogue Tasting with Jean Luc Pepin (London, 19 September 2023): Fresh but a bit closed initially. Second and follow up tastes yielded some candied fruit and smokier overtones. Very nice if a little too young at this stage. 93+

  • light ruby color with a touch of orange rim. Compare to 08 Roumier les crad, this bottle is more red, more open.
On palate, it's broader, lighter body. less tanning, less acidity and less flavor intensity compare to the Roumier.

  • Opened at the St. Regis in HK. P&P but slowly enjoyed over a peaceful evening.

Unfortunately, this was yet again a case of infanticide with Vogüé. Having been blown away by the ex-Domaine 2001 Amoureuses that I had just a few weeks before, I was hoping to catch lightning in a bottle twice. Alas, it didn't happen.

As for notes, the seductive red fruits were there, alongside beautiful minerality. However, everything was still tight, tense and meaty - it just wasn't effortless on the palate, which is what the best Amoureuses should be.

Revisit in 5+ years at least, probably safer to give it 10. This wine has the structure to last, and when it finally chooses to reveal its secrets and unfurl its fruit, this will be majestic.

  • 2.5 hours upon opening serving into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Leaf” day): Pale ruby to the eyes.

Smoke, strawberry jam. More about fruits than secondary notes.

Minerality driven, very much quite the “new world” style. Quite grippy in a nice way but probably not one might come to expect of this vineyard.

    94 points solid.

Second round, into Riedel Burgundy glass: dried leaves, sage and fine spices.

  • a wine of finesse. Italo thought it had an enchanting nose. Nice enough in the mouth, but no fireworks and at this tariff i cant see the logic here. perhaps i have criminally opened this a decade too soon, and if so I apologize. but increasingly i am finding that de Vogue wines and I do not click.
