  • Earthy, mineral-laden wine. Not as ponderous as many of the wines of MSD. This was dense, but not in a typical black-fruited way. From the nose, one might almost lean towards Chambolle. This drinks well now with food. The acids are fresh and the structure complements rich dishes.

  • Dinner at Home (Vancouver, BC): This was showing quite youthfully with a perfumey nose along with ripe pinot fruit and notes of floral and licorice. A really pretty nose. Palate offers pure crunchy red fruits, spice and maybe a hint of black fruits on the lengthy finish. Fine tannins and bright acidity round out the silky mouthfeel that shows lithe and great balance. This is young but approachable and ultimately needs 3-5 years to show its best. Excellent. 90+

  • Dinner at Devin and Emily's (Vancouver, BC): Tons of fresh red cherries on the nose, followed by lovely floral notes, along with some kirsch and licorice. Plenty more red cherries carry through onto the palate, as well kirsch and some herbal undertones. Nice balance, with lots of sharp acidity joined with a moderate amount of silky tannins. Medium+ length finish ending on notes of kirsch and bright red cherries. Obviously still very young, with a great silky texture on the palate and plenty of structure. Very good.

  • Library wine purchased recently and sampled while on vacation. Bright ruby hue. Nose which could only be described as perfume: violets, fresh cherries, iodine, thyme, anise. Taut, precisely-drawn layers of red raspberry and bing cherry fruit on the palate notable for utter density of sweet, pure fruit counterpointed by crisp acidity and lovely mineral notes. Tannins still structured, becoming more prominent as the evening progressed. Finish marked by red fruit and iron. Still early in its evolution, this was quite captivating at age 10.

  • Quick visit to Rhone and Burgundy; 11/27/2003-12/2/2003 (France): Tasting at winery. Much better than another recent tasting. Still showing simple fruit and structure, this had more pronounced red cherry flavors and integrated structure. I would still consider this a wine to drink over the next 2-5 years.

(Lambrays Morey St.Denis 1er) Medium-plus cherry. High toned flowery nose - nice. Good acidity with quite strong furry tannin. Good length too. A nice wine.
