A lost Friday afternoon gathering – how to semi cheat in a blind tasting (Black Salt, Washington DC): Wine 2 - Expressive nose displaying concentrated black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, a hint of oak, licorice, smoke, dark spice and mineral. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of concentrated black fruit, rich and dense, bright acidity and mineral, and a long concentrated black fruit driven finish. This is dominated by concentrated black fruit and doesn’t show much sous bois. Still needs another decade. Very similar style to the wine 5.

Dinner with Charles M - Champagnes and Burgundies (Blacksalt, Washington DC): Expressive nose displaying concentrated ripe black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, mocha, licorice, lavender, smoke, dark spices and mineral. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of concentrated black fruit, rich and opulent but also silky and nicely balanced, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a long ripe black fruit driven finish. Although it is already enjoyable, this can easily improved for a couple more decades.

Popped-decanted-and-poured, served blind. Clearly Grand Cru from a ripe vintage. At first I thought it 2015 (so young and tight) and told it was older thought 2005 (so powerful and firm). But the black fruit and meatiness brought me right to Gevrey. There is so much here that kept unfolding and improving over an hour in glass. 94-95+ point potential, but I wouldn't open until 2025-.

Pop n' pour, and had a small glass over 10-15 minutes. Whoa, this is a terrific Beze with so much proportion and layering. Gorgeous core of black fruit with meaty spice just starting to emerge. Well-balanced with structural elements in harmony. Fun, but will be so much better in 10+ years as the secondary notes come into the forefront.

Quality effort. Stemmy, balanced and persistent. Beze definitely his best wine.
