A long-standing love affair, this 2001 Pin. Today was the beheading of our last and final bottle. Had expected a tired, possibly oxidized wine as the corks are short. But lo and behold! Qanon hadn't gotten to this one yet.
Cork was wet only 1/3 and the small oxidized aromas left the double decanted wine within the hour.
Nose is of a warm, generous character with variuos fruits, dried flowers and herbal components. A leather shop shines through nicely and there is a beautiful hint of stables.
Aromas in the mouth are quite similar and ends with cherries and dried red roses. Still with a bit of grip and acidic perfection. Medium bodied, elegant and rich.
This is worth your while to hunt down and will spread happiness for many more years. Still on the plateau, but beware the short corks!

Clear red brown, slight bricking. Leather, red cherry, tobacco leaf and raisin on the amazingly complex nose. This is something between Barolo and Brunello and is intoxicating. On the palate this is very smooth and perfectly integrated. Raspberry, plum and cassis palate finishing with tar. Cigar box and Balsamico finish, long and warming. Fantastic.

A bottling from this prestigious Piemonte producer that - for some reason - does not qualify to be a Barolo. Despite this, it is still a DOC wine and is still a very nice bottle. Still a light purple hue right out of the bottle, not really showing its age. The nose is softer than most Barolo's, probably because of some blending or extensive oak: smoke, a touch jammy, some leather. Very nice balance about an hour in and really held it's own even at the two hour mark (not decanted). I still think it has at least 5-10 years left, and I think it will continue to evolve into something interesting. Right up there with a well made Barolo/Barbaresco.
