Marmalade bordering on amber colour. Perfect cork. Took a glass out via the Coravin. Glorious honeycomb and apricot essence nose. Rich, deep concentrated old Sauterne, very sweet still, certainly not drying out. Clearly low acid, no tension here. It rapidly started to fade after 10 minutes and lost it's nose altogether and a duller palate with a slightly sickly sweetness. This suggests it is on its last legs and is prepared to give one glorious last taste to the quick imbiber. Drink up this curio my friends. Score is for taste on opening.

BBQ at Matt and Francesca’s (Vancouver, BC): No formal notes. Felt a bit simpler after the Tokaji. There was this chemical/plastic note that was slightly off putting but other than that this was quite nice and a pretty good example of Sauternes. Still youthful but drinking well, this probably would have shown better had it not been served alongside the Tokaji. Good. 86+

A private lunch (Restaurant Pollen Street Social *, London, UK): Lively golden colour; classic Sauternes nose of honey, caramel and fruit, good depth, touch of VA; good weight, medium-sweet, lovely bitters, juicy, adequate acidity; good length. Fully mature, showing well.
