Great richness of fruit for the vintage -- sweet, dark, and deep with nothing of the stewed character or hollowness that plagues many other '97s. Unfortunately the oak is dominant here, and while it's a classy French oak flavor it seems like it'll be awhile before anything besides fruit and oak pokes through.

Raspberry, earth and some VA. Fruit is thin on the palate and the oak and tannins stand out.
