Berry Bros & Rudd bottling. Double decanted for a couple of hours. On the nose leather, farmyard, sweet spice, cherry and plum, biscuit, some meat and a little tomato leaf. On the palate it's a little sourly volatile which lends some red currant to the fruit, it' quite dried out as well with leathery, course tannins. The fruit does persist though and this was very nice with a lamb shank stew...

Pristine cork, needed one hour to open up, but then it was surprisingly live and despite being already an old wine, it has not passed it's prime. Intense nose, typical right bank, earthy, round on the palate, medium finish. Drink soon since it's unclear how long it will take before it starts going down the hill.

This wine was tasted as part of a bigger Bordeaux tasting, so the note might be a little bit short: cherry red, smells of cherry and some forest ground, smooth in the mouth with some acidity and forest ground, more evolved than the '96 tasted before.

Bottle in perfect condition. Double decanted. Deep plum colour. Strong, rich aroma. Sweet, almost medicinal blackcurrant predominates. Very smooth, medium-bodied. Very drying finish. Gentle fruit, nice sweetness on the midpalate. Some savoury spice. Altogether a good, solid wine - what you'd expect. Very assured, must have some considerable life left. Best with food. [Natural cork (date stamped); 13% abv; Nickolls and Perks, -10% @ £16.99]
