Festival of Phil (Phil's place, Putney, Sydney): From Coravin. Leather, black hued fruit, sweet spice, black pepper underpin and a little black tea. Juicy, black fruits, sweet and savoury spice, woody, chalky textured tannins are persistent, slight alcohol warmth. Nice.

This bottle was much better balanced compared to the February 2022 bottle. American oak maturation to the forefront combined with ripe black fruits and ginseng; medium-plus bodied, mouth-filling and richly dark-fruited on the midpalate with subnotes of leather and soy. There’s sufficient acidity to meet the intensity of the fruit. Unsure what further ageing will do - suspect that the wine will just soften. 14% ABV, suspect the true ABV is a bit higher.

A raspy and jarring acidity has overtaken this one, and is out of balance with the wine. While this bottle had perfect cellaring history, professionally cellared for over 20 years, unsure if this is a representative bottle...will hold judgment for now and try another bottle later.

Still a beautiful example of Grampians, Victoria Shiraz. Lovely nose full of fruit and spice. Lovely mouthfeel, still plenty of red fruit and a little dark. Just enough acidity to deliver a long finish, tannins completely integrated. Hard to believe it’s 23 years old ....most have surely lost it by that age. Well done Seppelt!!!!!

Beautiful complex bouquet translates to a wonderful compote of dark fruit and leather on the palate. Silky fully integrated fine tannins frame the structure of this well balanced wine that continues to show earthy power into its 20s. Really lovely wine that is drinking brilliantly now and for a few years more.
