One hour decant. Very very deep magenta color. Blackberry, brownie, fennel, and subtle orange rind. Smooth, dry palate. Firm, lower intensity tannins on the longish finish.

This is good and modestly improved relative to the bottle I had more than a year ago.

Two hour decant. Boysenberry, licorice, nutty chocolate, and blueberry. Smooth, dry palate. Firm, lower intensity tannins on the longish finish.

This is Amizetta’s second label. Well made. Solid QPR.

PNP. Very deep dark magenta color. Cinnamon, chocolate, marshmallow, caramel, melon, black cherry, cashew, and dark raspberry. Smooth, dry palate. Firm tannins on the longish finish.

This is one of the better Napa CS that drinks really well with little to no aeration. There’s a richness that belies its straightforward, fruit forward nature. It’s absolutely confectionery, but not out of control. It makes me feel a little cheap, but only slightly. ;)

This has entered a nice drinking window with a two hour decant. Dark cherries, cassis, hint of plums, vanilla, oak. Round, rich, darker fruits.
I don’t see this changing much. Nice wine for a Sunday evening

whether it's because the stars are aligned or the recent total eclipse, I seem to be on a parallel drinking track with friends Mark1NPT and AGELVIS within the universe that is Napa Valley Cabernet Franc. I never know what red to bring along to a seafood restaurant (I know, pinot noir, but sometimes I want something juicer).
Gave this two hours slow ox. This is a full bodied, juicy red, full of red and black fruits, chocolate notes and oak. Tannins integrate nicely with time in the glass. Not much varietal characteristics at this point.
I have found that reds from the Sugarloaf Vineyard (cabs, merlot, cab franc) tend to be a bit over the top fruit-wise, and I am leaning away from this style in recent months. In all fairness, I have tended to drink them all on the young side, and would love to hear from others whether they change at all with age
In summary, it is a pleasurable wine, just not the intellectual turn-on I sometimes crave from a good cab franc.

Agree that this needs at least an hour or two of decant. Will also definitely improve with age and is still early in its drinking window. Good QPR.

Had with Dave D in a small road house in Edmonton. Wine sat in the car most of the day. It was the first sunny warm day of the year. Totally unexpected. It was probably 80F in the car when I took the wine into the hotel.

I chilled in in my hotel fridge which thankfully was a crappy fridge, but just about cellar temperature.

Definitely worried it would be cooked.

Paid $25 corkage and our young server decanted the wine for us. Tons of sediment. The travel probably shook the bottle a little.

Allowed the wine to breathe for 7 or 8 minutes. Very closed, smooth mouth feel, it needs to breathe.

Ordered steak bites and truffle fries appetizers and sipped water while the wine was allowed to breathe for more minutes. Applies took 15 minutes to come and the wine had opened up a little.

Over two hours the wine opened up and we really enjoyed it. It probably deserved at least a two hour decant, but the conversation and laughs made up for the sub optimal wine conditions.

We had been planning a get together for over 5 years, only to have something always interfere, so this last minute meeting had to do.

PNP. Very deep dark magenta color. Blueberry jelly, milk chocolate, and caramel. Smooth, dry palate, with grainy acidity. Firm, full tannins on the medium long+ finish.

People who poo poo this wine are upset about how easy drinking it is, even for serious palates. I feel the same way, but I’m more honest. 😉 This is somewhat simple, but it’s enjoyable and has solid structure. Definitely built for drinking young.

I think I got the last 3 bottles of this last month from FM. After all the positive notes I had to try. I opened this on Saturday before a black tie event, but ultimately never got around to drink it - so it decanted for 5 hours. I could tell it was a bit boozy, disjointed from a quick pour. Put it under vacuum, reopened on Tuesday. This thing was singing, worth every penny. It just needs a bit of time to come together. Typical Benoit plushness.

note in progress

The 2019 Cos d'Estournel emerges after only a few minutes in the glass, Falstaffian - jolly and round, brimming with grape preserves, plum, pomegranate, freshened by a graphite mineral edge. As round as this is in the mouth, its acidity maintains an enticing drinkability. I don't think this will take particularly long to drink with pleasure, but its symmetry and stuffing should also allow for a long life.

I've been opening up a few 2009 in the las few months and this was comparatively a disappointment.

Even after a 4 hour decant it was incredibly chewy and raw, but more concerning I didn't find any depth and luxury that suggests in another 10 years it will be a different experience, it simply had a rather tart blueberry taste with limited complexity compared to any other 2009 I have had so far.

I'll let the other 5 bottles sleep, maybe they surprise me.

Sampled this wine at the Vine Vault in Atlanta back in August. This was the WOTN imo as was the opinion of my entire party. Deep, dark and brooding with medium plus acidity and tannins. Good balance for a wine of such youth. I didn't get any of the green or vegital notes that others on this forum indicated. In fact, I liked it so much that I came back for seconds. Wound up purchasing 3 bottles. This hit me in my yummy bone for sure. Notes of cocoa, cardamom and leather are backing up big jammy black fruits. Very lush. It will be interesting to see where this wine is in 10 years.

Came across an offer today for this at a substantial discount but passed, as there are no current notes for this one. Also, the Project '18 which I've had recently has been very weird. Somehow, I think Russell missed on these in '18.

A little post B-Day, hangin out poolside, smokin some ribs, just the wife and I...I think a Magnum will do! First thing you notice is how balanced and youthful this is right out the gate! Creamy and calm...engaging...yet piercing tartness of lemon and tangerine squeeze livens...gorgeous pitted orchard fruits with some honey and salt sprinkled on top...sour tarts stand at attention...ginger spice and hazelnut mousse fills the mouth...perfect nuanced brioche lees and almond liqueur add to the pleasing senses...reminds me of the beautifully complete and amazing 2002...just a little more laid back and cruising at lower rpm's...a stroll through the countryside, top down, and not a care in the world! Lovely wine!

Brought by Mark and Carol to our dinner in the little French restaurant. What a great wine with plenty of life, complexity, tannins and good acidity. This medium plus body monster is full of cherry and dark chocolate.

I felt it darker than the 2013 Cakebread Dancing Bear. I would not be in a rush to drink this one while it's ready to go now.

Great bottle brought by L&G to the table......classic black Howell Mtn fruit on the nose and palate....quite dense with great weight. The tannins are softening, and the wine is very well balanced, but I feel it is still early for this one. I only see it getting better with more time. Easy 95, almost 96 tonight. Maybe 97 down the road?

A very interesting bottle. Removed the foil to find a moldy cork top. Used an ah-so and the cork just crumbled to dust. Used part of my Durand to get the last bit of cork out, then a finer to pour into the decanter. It was a very slow pour given the sludge that passed for sediment. Almost an inch worth in the bottle?

Decanted only 30 min before going back into the clean, dry bottle to be transported to dinner with L&G at a nice little French bistro. Immediate nose of raisin/prune fruit and palate of a thin port. Under stopper for 4 hours chilled then slow ox'd at the restaurant for 30+ minutes and consumed over 2 hours.

Wow, how this changed over time. The port left, the acidity backed up the slightly raisined fruit and everything smoothed out. It really turned out to be a pretty decent bottle but you really needed to work with it. Most people probably would have dumped it in the first 10 minutes. Almost a 93 for me at the end. Just remains a tad too thin in the mouth to warrant a higher score.

Last vintage for Benoit. For me, this label has never impressed to the level of the pro review enthusiasm. Mostly Cabernet, with a huge dollop of Malbec (I have read, but JD states merlot). A very dark, inky appearing wine ( Malbec?), with mostly restrained black fruits, bitter chocolates and expresso, hint of olives. There was a bitterness on the palate that never quite faded. Decanted for an hour, drank over next three.
hopefully Biagi can work better magic here
