PNP. As elegant a ‘96 as there is. Virtually all of the acid has dissipated, leaving a beautifully structured NSG 1er. Mostly secondary raspberry and strawberry fruit. In the window, with another 5-8 years at the plateau .

Some VA, but very 96. The fruit can't possibly make up for the prominent acidity. Of our (unexpected!) 96 horizontal this night, the vintage definitely shone through.
Nut skins and orange rind and truffle / earth. This is drinking very well and may even be a bit young. The acidity of the vintage is certainly present, but is in balance. Unfortunately my last bottle- would love to try this again with another 5-10+ years on it.

Medium brick red color. Slightly woodsy elements (I associate with underripe stems) and dark cherry on the nose. Cherry, meat, earth, plum, spice and some rhubarb initially on the palate. Some black truffle notes join with time in the glass. Still has rustic structure with some coarseness of tannin/acid in play, but that's all forgiven with some food. A good, mature wine, drinking in its zone. Drink or hold.

Chevillon Roncières vertical at The Bristol (Chicago, IL): Double decanted an hour before dinner. This shows quite austere and stemmy at first, but air allows a very nice floral perfume to blossom. Despite being Nuits, there's a really nice airy elegance to this wine, and the rusticity of this seem to have played well with the leaner vintage. I'm not a huge fan of 1996, but I found this wine to be quite well-balanced. Without a doubt, time will be a friend to this wine.
