A very lovely and well presenting wine at this time, save for the fact that my was the "corked" edition. C'est la vie; I still enjoyed the entire bottle.

Brought to Next Door for Tomo's farewell. This took awhile to open up and show its stuff, but then it was quite nice. Good balance of fruit, acid, and earthy tones. Medium weight at best but paired well with food. Was my last bottle.

This was boring and not worth the space it took up in my wine fridge for 6 years. It was fine, nothing negative, just nothing positive either. Even after a few hours open showed no interesting characteristics or personality. I've had better $20 Cotes du Rhone.

Decanted for about an 1-2 hours, which helped it to open some but still had a somewhat tight bouquet. We enjoyed this with Yankee Pot Roast, which it paired very nicely with. The wine had nice acidity and the flavors were still vibrant.

PnP. Nose initially dominated by typical old-world funk. After that mostly blew off, nice floral notes came through on the nose. Bright and fresh on the palate with ample acidity. Still a bit of tannic bite on the finish which suggests that this has time left. Really good wine with food, and paired nicely with a slow-cooked rack of ribs. Karen thought this was just OK (she typically dislikes French wine), but I thought it was very nice. Love the expression of Syrah from the Northern Rhone -- it's so different than most Aussie or California Syrahs, which can be great but tend to be beasts and sometimes overwhelm food. Would definitely buy this again.
Poured off half to a 375 and screw capped, will see how it fares next time.

(Francois Villard Mairlant St. Joseph) #2; COLOR-dark; NOSE-stink juice; like black pepper meet subtle poop on the back-end; pickle juice aspect that I like; some minerality; more Old World; PALATE-this wine is very good and brings the thunder; not as big and bold as some, but very elegant; more Bordeaux-like; not as much fruit, but classic and really elegant; some nice bitter tannins on the mid-palate; like dark chocolate with pistachios; this has a dry, firm black tea component with the tannins that makes me think this will last 13-15 years; WS-92; GV-92+
