Tasted by BradE on 3/9/2024: Showing its age, but a very good 69 original. (208 views)
Tasted by shifter on 3/9/2024: Grand Cru White Burgundy Fest: Wonderful bottle. Great color, nice bubbles, fading a bit, great complexity. Lovely. (284 views)
Tasted by Boone's Farm on 8/20/2023 & rated 91 points: A little past it’s prime.nice old sherried champagne (811 views)
Tasted by Eric on 6/16/2023: M&PD Tasting: Lark (Seattle, WA, USA): Lighting in the restaurant was not great, but this was almost Rose-like in the glass. There was the faintest little fart of carbonation when opened and then totally still. At first there some clear sherry notes, not so encouraging, but the clearest smell of white chocolate I have ever sensed in a wine. This is followed with some lime and building notes of slate and salt. Some nuttiness and simply fantastic acidity. The palate is creamy and loaded with white chocolate. The most amazing thing was that this actually gained weight and improved across three hours, shedding the sherry notes and showing more intensity with time. Shocking really. (1478 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 11/5/2022: Charleston VII; 11/2/2022-11/6/2022 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): Absolutely awesome wine. A bit of a tricky cork, but we got through it. This is aged champagne at it's finest. Bubbles mostly gone but you can tell they were there. Caramel notes. Lots of brightness to the wine. Great acid still. Drinking very well. (2370 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 10/16/2021 & rated 93 points: Tony's 60th Birthday Celebration (Republique - Los Angeles CA): Lots of honeycomb and apple pie with both sweet and savory spice. Very impressive depth with enough bright energy to keep it fresh. Nearly effervescent. A great bottle that had been stored since shortly after release. (4190 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 9/2/2021: Epic Bordeaux for an Epic Birthday!; 9/1/2021-9/12/2021 (Paris & Bordeaux): The last bottle that we had of this was just rocking so I was hoping for a similar showing here. This one is more tired. A bit oxidized. Caramelized. Drinking totally fine and nice at the end of the evening. (4596 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 12/2/2020 & rated 92 points: Fresh and nutty with brioche, orange peel, kumquat and biscuit. Drinking wonderfully with moderate complexity. 92-93 (3997 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 11/6/2020: Early celebration of a friend's 60th since we will miss the main event. This was just rocking. Started strong and got better through the night. There was some concern that it was missing the effervescence but the acid was pretty high and so it kept the wine feeling fresh and festive. Complex, nutty, delicious. Too bad we just have the one bottle. (3534 views)
Tasted by CamWheeler on 11/30/2019 & rated 92 points: PR 1969 Extravaganza: Earthy, oranges, dusty chocolate and mint on the nose. Minimal bubbles but has great golden colour to it. Decent acid tang cleanses the palate, with some light fruit sweetness. Medium length. This was in excellent condition. (4052 views)
Tasted by Mrbuzz on 5/12/2019 & rated 98 points: An original bottling from an Italian cellar...it was pristine! The cork came out perfectly just by tugging on the wire cage...a faint pop...then a waft of freshness released from the bottle...I knew then we were in for a treat! More tiny prickling bubbles than I thought there would be...poured a brilliant aged golden color...rich and creamy baked apple, apricot honey, aged nuttiness...so alive with lemon and orange acidity...saline minerality...a very faint sweetness that reminded me of an aged Sauternes...SO much elegance and finesse...yet full bodied and flavored...really drank well through out the evening. Couldn't ask for a better showing to celebrate a 50th bday! (5358 views)
Tasted by BenBlu on 12/19/2018 & rated 97 points: Part of a fantastic line-up, Peter generously brought a magnum of this beauty along. Served blind. The higher dosage compared to the first three (younger) champagnes became apparent. Fox coloured in the glass. Feisty nose - fireworks, pepper, wow! On the palate it was still beautifully fresh (surely helped by its format), a wine in total balance. Drinking so easy I remarked I could have drunk bucket loads of it ;-) What a treat. I found that it was at peak upon pnp and didn't necessarily gain/improve with aeration. This was drinking at absolute peak and lucky we caught it at that moment. For standard bottles drink up, and for magnums I would say drink now or within the next 5-10 years, but there is little point in waiting. Thanks for sharing Peter & Julien! (6223 views)
Tasted by the player on 12/6/2017 & rated 92 points: Definitely an experience drinking a champagne almost half a century old. Previously the oldest DP I had had the pleasure of drinking was the 1990 a few years back which was outstanding. The age of this DP definitely evident in the deep golden color and every so tiny bubbles this champagne exhibits. Corck was intact but appeared slightly thinner than what I have seen before. On the palate and the nose, lots of rock and minerality, some melon and bitter honeycomb, behaving more like a mature white wine than a champagne, hardly any fruit, but a persistent finish remind you that this champagne is not dead yet. (7419 views)
Tasted by BradE on 10/5/2017: Trios of Dom Perignon: A very good bottle of 69 original. Bested the 69 Oeno and 69 P3 drunk side by side. (8813 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 3/6/2017 & rated 95 points: From magnum. Golden depth and yet untattered for the first hour. Began to show its age an hour in, but great finesse for an old champagne. (9491 views)
Tasted by RichEB1 on 7/22/2016 & rated 97 points: OMFG. Let me start by saying that this is hands-down, not only the best Dom P I've ever had, but easily the best champagne I've had the pleasure of drinking.

Quick backstory on this one, as I feel like it's worth it. Being that I'm always on the lookout for "that 1 killer deal", I sometimes peruse Craigslist for specific wines. The other day, I happened upon a listing for a 1969 dom P for $199. Of course I immediately sent a note asking for details, and he sent me pics of the fill level, and the color of the wine behind sunlight. All looked decent, and although he couldn't guarantee the provenance....he would take $120 for it given the uncertainties. Yep. Let's do this.

Got the bottle on Wednesday, and popped it today (Friday), as I actually just started my 3-week sabbatical (we offer this at my company on everyone's 5th, and 10th year of employment), and my wife and I wanted to celebrate before we head out tomorrow for a cruise to Bermuda (first solo trip since our first was born 6 years ago).

Cork broke but I was able to extract the remainder. The wine poured a deep, dark amber color, with very fine bubbles and an amazing nose of butterscotch, and caramel apples on the nose. Yep...we're in business boys and girls. On the palate, this is absolutely sensational. More caramel, sour apples, a bit of spice, and a touch of honey on the finish that became more prominent as this opened up. The most amazing part about this wine was how fresh it was. Incredibly smooth and certainly well aged as apparent by the color....but blind, you'd have a VERY hard time clocking this as almost a 50-year old champers.

I've had the pleasure of drinking quite a few aged Dom P's in the past, but none of them have come even close to this one. Best champers ever, best wine this year, and top 5 ever.

and the fact that I scored this for $120. Well. That makes it even that much sweeter. Cheers! (9187 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 11/7/2015 & rated 91 points: Perhaps not the best bottle but quite enjoyable. Just with limited gifts to offer. Dry paper and leater, flour notes, quite mature. 91-92 (9871 views)
Tasted by hajoha on 10/4/2015 & rated 92 points: Dom Perignon 1969.
Startet litt urent, så fikk opphold i karaffel i 1,5 time!
Helt sherry-fri nese.
Mye kaffe her, og nøtter.
Faktisk rett så elegant.
Er såvidt noen bobler igjen som gir en lett og perlende munnfølelse.
Rik i anslaget med store mengder lysbrent kaffe på smak. Stor friskhet.
Fremdeles en vital flott vin, men for meg tar kaffepreget litt overhånd her.
Meget lang finish. 92p (8576 views)
Tasted by The Vines That Bind on 9/12/2015 & rated 96 points: Dark amber in the glass but amazingly alive. A wicked nose of shotgun shell powder and baking brioche. Still effervescent but with slow lethargic bubbles, a creamy, waxy texture, with dark honey, caramel, and marmalade on the palate. An interesting wine to try, maybe not as well cut as the Oenotheque, but still just sensational. Will definitely be looking for '60s champagnes after this. (7761 views)
Grazie a Lorenza e Stefano! (6590 views)
Tasted by Cheungtp on 4/11/2015 & rated 95 points: First true encounter with an old Champagne, and it's awesome! There's no bubbles (champagne ignorant here), but a golden elixir that offers a complex nose filled with fruity sweetness, creamy bakery and nutty notes. Acidity and alcohol is exquisitely balanced, and the soft touch on the palate makes you almost not wanting to swallow. Long and still lively. Simply brilliant! Thanks Isaac for such a fantastic treat. (5606 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 6/7/2014: A couple of guys at the table thought there was a bit of tca, I thought there was some mushroomy characters from the cork but perhaps not tca. It had plenty of citrus and toast and was quite full with quite sweet dosage still evident. (6467 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 5/1/2014: Acker "Paulee" Burgundy Dinner (The Fourth - New York NY): Dark color. Plenty of mature fruit, advanced but charming. Very good length and power. I am not the biggest fan of older Champagne, so found this more interesting than delicious. (6865 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 12/18/2013: Pours out a deep orange colour but is still bright and luminous. It smells quite malty and chocolatey at first like Ovaltine. There are notes of truffle, almond butter and preserved citrus and it is quite sweet at its heart with brulee, honey and baked apple flavours. There's a pleasant prickly sensation where the bubbles used to be and it is full, rich, complex and ethereal. Length of flavours is admirable. (7003 views)
Tasted by BradE on 6/8/2013: Drank the 69 DP and 69 Oeno side by side. Both were great, as they usually are. The 69 showed its age, but was a well stored bottle that expressed great aged DP typicity. The 69 Oeno, an 06 disgorgement, was a mind blowingly good bottle. What a duo. (8086 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
