Community Tasting Notes (average 90.5 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 55 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Moorsie on 2/28/2021 & rated 91 points: Definitely showing it’s age, but still bery enjoyable, especially with some red meat from the grill... (1621 views)
Tasted by passion4wine on 11/3/2020 & rated 91 points: My election night drinker, this 2012 Trilogy shows a bit of age but lovely pipe tobacco, cedar, and earth around a core of blackberry and plum. The fruit is there and still has a hint of acidity with smooth tannins and a pleasant finish. For over a few hours into the evening the fruit held up and the wine delivered complex aromas and flavors. This won't last much longer, but it's drinking nicely now. (1569 views)
Tasted by Brynenglish on 7/28/2020: . (1625 views)
Tasted by Magnolian on 5/11/2020 & rated 87 points: Pleasant enough fruit, which faded after about an hour, and a excessively tart finish. Past its prime. (1841 views)
Tasted by e+e on 4/18/2020: Agree with CT recommendation to drink now. Beginning to fade. (1857 views)
Tasted by SheddVA on 6/2/2019 & rated 90 points: Opened to quite a nose of smoke and alcohol, but quickly mellowed during decant into a smooth, balanced drinker. Not overly complex but very enjoyable. (1536 views)
Tasted by Floyd77 on 4/21/2019 & rated 88 points: A perfectly enjoyable trilogy. But there is more thickness than depth here; there’s plenty of fruit but it’s monolithic and not particularly interesting. It drinks fine but just don’t pay much attention or you’ll get bored with it rather quickly. (1420 views)
Tasted by Cellar1400 on 5/28/2018 & rated 92 points: Xlnt fruit, layered finish. Perfect with Grilled Chicken and Tri-tip; lasted right through the German Chocolate cake. (2013 views)
Tasted by Lockareff on 4/2/2018 & rated 92 points: Well balanced, nice structure, smooth finish. Fruit fading a bit but still drinking very nicely. (1816 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 11/2/2017 & rated 91 points: Napa/Sonoma Trip With Some Exceptional Gems; 11/1/2017-11/5/2017 (1800ft Up Cavedale Road, Glen Ellen, CA): Tasted at the Winery. No notes. Youthful, nice fruit. Needs some time to round out. (3072 views)
Tasted by msouter on 10/26/2017 & rated 91 points: smooth with lots of fruit, full bodied , delicious (1867 views)
Tasted by lorenkreiss on 3/5/2017 & rated 93 points: This wine snuck up on me after opening my second bottle a month after my first. Very silky and crowd pleasing. Fruity, dark and chocolate-y. Lovely wine. Wish I bought a full case. (2628 views)
Tasted by qtsam11 on 1/14/2017 & rated 93 points: Wow, what a great wine. Definitely a bit early, but the nose was phenomenal. Drank over 4-5 hours and by the end the tannins had mellowed considerably. Good to drink now, will drink better in a few years. (2284 views)
Tasted by Grant_gib on 11/23/2016 & rated 92 points: Pre Thanksgiving wine...
Smoked chocolate, with tart cherry on the front and a hint of hazelnuts. A subtle metallic note and very tight. Not a long lingering finish, but exciting on the palette. (2276 views)
Tasted by cooperscellar on 5/15/2016 & rated 92 points: Gorgeous. Oaky notes are pronounced but support the fruit rather than overpower. Berries and chocolate on the palate. 2 minute plus finish. (2640 views)
Tasted by pdev on 4/6/2016 & rated 91 points: Darker than cab & Merlot, more of that milk chocolate, cocoa, cedar. Dark & rich, crowd pleasing style blend. Tad on the sweet side. Nice wine. (2606 views)
Tasted by gejohnston on 3/8/2016 & rated 91 points: Had 3 bottles with dinner. All enjoyed very much. Will be even better in a few years. (2069 views)
Tasted by gejohnston on 3/8/2016 & rated 91 points: Good bottle that will get better with time (2231 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 2/15/2016 & rated 90 points: For me it tastes too much "produced", a little bit too fleshy, very concentrated, nice red and black berries, some Vanilla, a typical good made new world wine with good drinking flow (1965 views)
Tasted by BigTex22 on 11/21/2015 & rated 89 points: Third wine of the night at a client dinner. Typical steakhouse Cabernet - fruity, bold, and and aromatic. Followed an awful 2013 Caymus, so there's probably some point inflation here. GOOD. (1911 views)
Tasted by cconner on 10/29/2015 & rated 83 points: Too tight right now. Needs another year. (1766 views)
Tasted by yofog on 9/15/2015: Lots of oak, lots of very ripe fruit, not much else. Very soft, restaurant style wine that won't develop, and I can't justify the price. You can get really fine wine for that kind of dough, and this ain't fine wine. (1982 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 4/20/2015 & rated 89 points: This Left Bank Bordeaux blend is medium bodied, fresh, bright, crunchy and serves up crisp fruits, oak and spice. (2591 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 3/21/2015: K&L Domestic Tasting (K&L Hollywood): Pretty over-the-top oak infuence on the nose, which overwhelmed the bits of dark fruit that pierced the veil. Lots of spice and vanilla. Softer acidity than I like on the palate, which is creamy and rather full bodied. Softer tannic finish than expected again. I tried this out of a bottle that had been open for 2 hrs and one that had been freshly opened, and there wasn't a huge difference. (2360 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
